This is a red camellia astragalus. Camellia spread throughout the country along with tea ceremonies and flower arranging during the Muromachi and Momoyama periods. As the scientific name "Camellia japonica" suggests, it is native to Japan. Flowers representing Japan are drawn in bright colors.
